She paints a pretty picture

But the picture has a twist -

She paints it with a point

And she paints it on her wrist.

Her paint is scarlet red;

Her brush is silver-sharp.

Wherever it hurts her most

Becomes her canvas dark.

Her picture as many layers:

Stripes and curves and scratches

All crying in a river

Of scars and lines and hatches.

Her wrists now run red

As she weeps into the night.

Confused, ashamed and addicted

She sinks back to the silver bite.
