Long ago in the year of 1820 on December 25th there was a fierce snow blizzard in New York City. Many of the citizens in the city were celebrating the joyous holiday with their loved ones. On this cold and frigid night one lone hooded figure wandered through the snow towards a well known orphanage in the city.

With a heavy heart, the young woman placed the basket on the steps of the orphanage and rang the bell. As she stood there, tears began to form in her eyes, her heart aching with the pain of separation. A moment later, the door opened, revealing a kind and gentle old woman, who took one look at the baby in the basket and then turned to the young woman.

"My dear child, what brings you out on such a night?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

The young woman looked up, tears streaming down her face, "I have no choice but to leave my child here. I cannot take care of him, but I want him to have a better life."

The old woman nodded understandingly and reached out to take the baby from the basket. As she held him, she smiled down at the child, cooing softly, "Welcome little one. You will be loved and cared for here."

The young woman watched with a heavy heart as her child was taken inside, knowing that she would never see him again. But she also knew deep down that she had made the right choice for her baby boy, and that he would be taken care of and loved just as she would have done.

As she turned to leave, the young woman pulled her hood back up, wrapping the red scarf around her face once more. As she walked away into the snowy night, she felt a sense of peace wash over her, knowing that her son would be safe and loved. Even though it was a painful decision, she knew it was the right one. And in her heart, she knew that her love for her son would never fade, even if they were separated by time and distance.

Once back inside the warm orphanage, the old woman carefully removed the blanket from the basket, she saw the small baby boy all nestled inside. The baby was still sound asleep with a peaceful expression on his face. The woman's heart swelled with tenderness as she picked him up and held him close to her chest. She could feel the warmth of the baby's body and the softness of his skin, and it made her heart ache with a mixture of joy and sadness.

The woman carefully read the letter that was tucked into the blanket, tears streaming down her face as she realized what had just happened. This was a mother who loved her child deeply, but for reasons beyond her control, she had to give him up. The woman knew all too well the pain of separation and loss, and she made a silent promise to herself that she would care for this child as if he were her own.

She rocked the baby gently in her arms, whispering soft words of comfort and love. She could feel his tiny heart beating against her chest, and it filled her with a sense of purpose and meaning. From that moment on, she knew that her life would never be the same. She had been given a precious gift, and it was her responsibility to cherish and protect it with all her heart.

The baby gurgled in response, his tiny fingers gripping her hand tightly. Amanda smiled at him, feeling a warmth in her chest that she had never experienced before. She had never been particularly maternal, but something about this little boy tugged at her heartstrings.

His blue eyes seemed to twinkle in the light. "What is your name little one?" Amanda asked the baby quietly.

As she held him, she felt a wave of tenderness wash over her. She could feel the love pouring out of her, filling every corner of her being. She couldn't explain it, but she knew that she would do anything to protect this child.

As the snow continued to fall outside, the woman held the baby close and whispered a silent prayer of gratitude. She knew that this was not the end of the story, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in both of their lives.

When Amanda picked up the baby out of the basket she noticed a white folded up sheet of paper slip out onto the table. Amanda held the baby in her right arm while she read the letter with her left hand. It stated that the baby boys name was Santa Claus.

That was a very interesting name Amanda thought with a smile. The letter also stated that Santa Claus is to be taken care of and sent to a warm and loving family who will be able to care for him.

As Amanda watched Santa sleep, she couldn't help but feel a sense of tenderness wash over her. She knew that he had been through a lot in his short life, and it was her job to ensure that he felt loved and cared for. She gently stroked his cheek, and Santa stirred in his sleep, a small smile forming on his lips.

In that moment, Amanda felt a connection with Santa that she had never felt with any other child before. She knew that she would do anything to protect him and make sure that he had a bright future ahead of him.

As she left the room, Amanda couldn't help but think about how lucky she was to be able to make a difference in the lives of these children. She knew that it wasn't always easy, but the tenderness and love she felt for them made it all worth it.
