The Beginning

It started with a handfull of wilting flowers.

One happened to be a yellow rose, with no thorns, who's stem was still strong and straight. I loved the rose, i dropped all the other flowers but kept it, hugging it close to my chest. I think that was when I fell in love with him.

Chapter One

"JULIET!" A deep voice screamed after me. I bunched up my skirts and started running. He was not going to catch me today! I siffled a giggle as he rounded the corner after me, his suit of armor stuffed full of colored roses.

"You can't catch me today Prince!" I shouted back and started running up the stone stairs. His growel echoed though the stone castel walls around us, making me laugh harder.

Maids and nobels stepped out of the way and bowed as I barreled past trying to make it to my father's study, and avoid my red faced chaser. "OH No you don't!" He shouted, but there was amusemnet hidden, and as I glanced back to see why, a smirk had curled up in the corners of his mouth. My heart fluttered looking at him, making me stumble.

I let out a paniked screach as the stone floor suddenlygot closer. I put my arms up to protect my face. I waited for the pain of skidding to a halt on rough stone, having my cheeks rubbed raw and my palms scraped. But it never happened. Prince's armor clanged loudly as he lifted me up, laying on the floor his arms around my waist. "You're such a clutz Juliet!" He hissed but a smile played on his lips and his eyes sparkled.

"Are Not!" I cried but laughed anyway. This was Prince Gervard, the son of the highest ranking general in my father's army, he's a royal gurad (mine to be exact) and my secret love. So don't tell any one.

He stood up and dusted the last of the rose petels off his suit and grinned down at me like a child. He was a good two feet taller than me, and his metal suit made him look that much bigger, I on the other hand am barely over five feet, yeah that makes him close to seven feet tall. "Alright," he said looking at all the faces that were trying not to laugh, I didn't bother trying not too I laughed so hard I doubled over.

"There they go again!" Someone said smiling. "Always chasing after one another." The people in the palace always talked about Prince and me, we had been friends since we were little, always been together, he was my best friend. He was there through thick and thin, no matter how emotional I got.

"Come on Prince, I thought you liked roses. Considering..." I pointed to the emblem on his chest piece. It was a rose to signify that he was my protector, also my warning to other girls that he was mine.

"No Juliet YOU," he pointed a guantlet finger at me. "Like roses."

"A very true fact indeed." I said ruffling my skirts, looking proper. Prince laughed at me. "Anyway," I huffed looking away. "Father's back..." I didn't have to finish. Prince and my dad went together like pillows and blankets, yes two of my three favorite things (ironic who they reprisent hehe). Prince smiled and nodded putting a hand on my back, making my heart flutter and my cheeks flush, and he led me down the halls.

It wasn't always like this with us. Before I would laugh and run away from him, I never blushed or even felt much of anything, he had always been my best friend. It wasn't until recently that my heart would race when I see his smile, or flutter when he touched me. I dared not tell anyone, they only joked that we were in love. They never would have thought that I was head over heels for him. And who wouldn't?

He had soft brown eyes, thick dark lashes and light soft brown hair that swayed when he walked. When he didn't have his armor on (which wasn't often) his skin was tanned and strongly built. He was deadly with a sword and bow, but honestly he would rather stay by my side and talk then go out and kill something, especially a person! But the most amazing feture of him was his gentle smile. When he was truly happy it would reach from ear to ear, his face would glow and for some reason every time he smiled I couldn't but stare. He was perfect! "Juliet you're staring!" He whispered. Quickly I snapped out of it.

"That's because there was a flower petle in your hair." I brushed his hair like there really was. "I didn't know whether to swat it away or just let you go all day with a red petal in your hair." I don't know if he caught the lie, but he fluffed his hair (and what do I do? I watch in utter adorment!)

"Oh PRIIINCE!" A shrill voice called. We both turned to the sound, I cringed. A girl my age walked towards us, well slaunted. Her top was too low for decency, her blond hair curled tight, and her lips painted bright red. I took a glance at Prince, he looked helpless. There was one thing that Prince didn't know how to deal with, and that was flashy girls.

"Hello Lady Marine," I said formally. She quickly glanced at me, I think I saw hate, and she bowed low.

"Princess." She whispered with her head dipped. I Could See Down Her DRESS! I tried not to show I did, I gripped Prince's armor and smiled. "You are looking well." She said smiling. I nodded. "May I speak with Prince alone?" she emphesized alone. I glanced at Prince, he had gone completely pale! I tried not to laugh, and almost, almost said yes. But there was no telling what this girl would do to my Prince if I left her alone with him.

"I'm terribly sorry Marine, but my father wishes to speak to us. And he worries if Prince is not with it arms reach of me. I guess that's why he's faster than me." I nudged him laughing. Shaking his head he pulled out of his daze and looked at me.

"Are you ready now Princess Juliet?" He asked, being formal. I smiled and nodded. Prince took three steps behind me (another proper thing. Sometimes they get really annoying!). As we rounded the corner we both let out a breath we seemed to be holding. We laughed until my father's voice echoed around us.

Prince shot to attention, I stood straight, but had to bite my lip from lauging. "In my study! NOW!" We both started running towards my father. He grinned like a mad man. "JULIET!" he laughed as he hugged me. There was one thing about my father you should know. He rarely gets mad. "Now tell me what you have done to this poor boy while I've been gone." He said pulling away and clapping Prince on the shoulder.

"Well your highness..." Prince started.

"Does he look poor in any way?" I asked cutting him off. We glared at each other playfully.

"Well it seems you two have been rather buisy... But I must speak to you." A shiver went down my spine. He had never been that serious since mother died. Prince's strong arms held me as I rocked a bit, my father's eyes never leaving my face. I'm sure I went pale. "Come in." He waved us in. Prince had to lead me, I was still in shock.
