‘Are you sure you’re ready?’

It seemed to be the hundredth time Scorpius Malfoy had asked that question today – but he was nervous so she had to be understanding of that. Amelia looked up at him, finding comfort in their entwined fingers, as the snow gently fell around them and coated the ground.

Scorpius tilted his head away from the snow, grimacing slightly as his nose scrunched up in the most adorable way. Amelia stifled a chuckle as she watched him; the perfectly cut jaw, the hair that he had spent longer than her styling this morning, the bright grey eyes.

‘Yes, I’m completely ready,’ Amelia reassured him, stretching up to place a chaste kiss on his cheek.

Amelia saw his eyebrows furrow and knew that he was worried about breaking the big news to her family. The news that Amelia and Scorpius were now engaged. Amelia would no longer be a Weasley, soon she’d be a Malfoy. The thought scared her too but she had to be strong, she had to get through this and it wouldn’t be easy. Not in the slightest.

‘We should probably go in now,’ Amelia said softly, trying to keep her tone calm so that he would remain calm.

Scorpius took a deep breath and his hand tightened slightly around hers. They waited a few second, with nothing but coldness to accompany them and the vast emptiness that surrounded the newly engaged couple. Amelia watched him for those few seconds before letting him lead her towards the Burrow.

When they stepped into the huge, yet cramped, house, they were met with warmth. Although the warmth wasn’t radiating from the Weasley’s and the Potter’s as they came to see who was at the door. When their eyes landed on Scorpius, most of them grimaced or frowned.

Silence pursued the crowd of people in front of Amelia and she blurted the first thing that she could think of.

‘Scorpius asked me to marry him.’

These were the first words that left Amelia’s mouth as soon as she entered the burrow to see her family staring at her. They had all gathered around to greet her and Scorpius since the last time she had been here was nearly a whole year ago when she had revealed that she was with Scorpius. Amelia and Scorpius had moved in together at the start of August and they had spent the Christmas in their new apartment. Now, a whole year later, Amelia was revealing to her whole family that she was engaged.

She felt like everyone could see her ring, as though the engagement ring was the biggest elephant in the room at that moment. Eyes zeroed in on the seemingly expensive ring and flashes of jealousy were obvious in some of the female eyes. Scorpius’ arm tightened around her waist when the words left her mouth and she felt as though she’d doomed them both when Fred Weasley, her father, turned his eyes into a furious glare directed at Scorpius. The remaining Weasley’s joined them one by one and Harry and his family also stood there, staring at them.

Amelia saw Hermione’s eyes go to the engagement ring and they seemed to flash for a second, with an emotion that Amelia guessed was anything but happiness, before she came to her senses. She looked at her husband and consoled Fred by pulling on his hand which didn’t make him stop glaring at Scorpius. Scorpius’ arm tightened even more on his fiancés waist.

‘Are you pregnant?’ Fred asked, his voice low. Hermione bit her lip as she looked at Amelia, thinking of how hard pregnancy could get.

‘What?’ Amelia asked, frowning at him. She played with her hands, feeling nervous but also another strange feeling bubbling at the bottom of her chest. It was a comical sight to behold since Dominique started whispering again and eyebrows raised. James was the only one whose glare didn’t change.

‘You are pregnant!’ Fred yelled, his voice straining. He looked at Scorpius and pointed a finger in his chest, ‘I’ll kill you!’

‘No, Dad!’ Amelia frowned, putting a hand on his chest and effectively stepping between Fred and Scorpius. Amelia thought the idea that she was pregnant was absurd since Scorpius was extremely careful and they used protection all the time, ‘I-I’m not pregnant!’

Amelia felt as though she could hear her heart beat in her chest at the look Fred was aiming at Scorpius. She wet her lips a little and opened her mouth to speak but no words came out; she was like a gaping fish starving for water and that thought was what made laughter bubble from her lips as though she was insane. Amelia laughed nervously as everyone looked confused and Dominique and Victoire shared a look. Scorpius glanced down at Amelia, the worry on his face creasing his brows, while Fred’s fury heightened to the point of nearly blowing his top.

‘If this is a joke...’ Fred said, trailing off slightly as Amelia shook her head, fresh laughter bubbling automatically from her lips. The idea that she was pregnant and the fact that she was 18 years old and couldn’t do anything without her parents freaking out about her annoyed her quite a lot but even that annoyance couldn’t stop the laughter that fell from her lips.

‘No, Dad... No, it’s not...’ Amelia shook her head and then pressed her face against Scorpius’ chest. Scorpius wrapped his arms around her, rubbing her back soothingly. He was annoyed at her for making him come here but this laughter was worrying him.

‘Amelia, love,’ Scorpius whispered, his eyebrows were still furrowed together as he tried to figure out why she was acting like this. It just made Fred angrier to see his daughter being comforted by someone like Scorpius.

‘This is bloody brilliant,’ James frowned from where he was leaning against the living room doorway, watching as his cousin laughed her head off, ‘Amelia, marrying a bloody death eater isn’t a joke!’

‘Death eater?’ Scorpius asked, glaring at James instead of comforting Amelia.

‘Yeah, you heard me. You and your father-’ James was cut off immediately by a slap on his arm from Ginny. Although his glare remained fixed on Scorpius.

‘Okay, enough,’ Fred frowned at the Weasley clan as they stared at his daughter, ‘can we go back to... whatever we were doing before? Someone get their bags.’

‘It’s fine. We’ll get it, Dad,’ Amelia murmured, grabbing her bag and leading Scorpius to the stairs as everyone stared.

‘Your room is two floors up and on the right,’ Hermione murmured softly as she watched them go.

Amelia followed the directions and then threw herself on the bed when they got there, ‘well, that went horribly.’

‘We should have eased them into it! Not just blurted it out!’ Scorpius closed the door behind him and frowned, crossing his arms over his chest, ‘I want to go to our apartment, get into bed with food, and spend Christmas with you... alone. Not with your family.’

Amelia sighed, letting her eyes close. She couldn’t just abandon her family on Christmas and they should get used to Scorpius and see just how amazing he was for Amelia. They would be seeing a lot of him now that they were engaged and soon to be married.

Amelia sat up and reached for him, ‘it’s just a few days, Scorp.’

Scorpius just sighed, moving to the window, ‘fine but I’m only doing this for you. Let’s get these few days over with... with minimal drama, please.’

Amelia watched him and bit her lip, standing up. She didn’t reply to him as she went to unpack their bag, thinking that her family was pretty much the epitome of drama
