Mary's Game

Mary was a girl with a spark in her step,

Until she met him and her life took a trip.

She lived life on the edge, not seeing the truth,

Her innocence gone, her frustration brewed.

A daredevil in her own right

She lived to dream despite,

People who despised her but she only did what she chose,

And levitated higher as she rose.

Above and over them,

She saw them beneath,

Tiny like ants she watched them speak

But she didn't hear what they said

For she was about to jump off the edge.

Closer she moved, dancing away,

What could she do, she didn't want to stay.

His face emerged in her mind,

The memory of him delivered a sign.

Her life was not worth living if he was there

So she just gave up; this wasn't a dare

It was what she wanted right from the start,

To live her dream and avoid a wound to her heart.

But the scars of his actions and words ran deep,

Penetrating her soul so she became weak.

A fragile state caused her to question the point of it all

And as she did so, did finally she fall.

Through an endless abyss, soaring as she went

Remembering her life; she did not repent.

What has happened is for the better,

No more at the thought of him she will not shudder.

Mary saw the white light as she floated down,

Silently she left this world; there was no more sound.

Just the ringing of sirens that filled the street,

And there lay Mary in a peaceful sleep,

A girls whose life had ended so quick,

And there he stood surprised by her wit.

He chuckled to himself as he remembered her name,

Mary, a girl with who he had played and won an amusing game.

For him she had been a worthy opponent,

Smiling at her corpse he shuddered only for a moment

Before moving on to find fresh meat

For there in the midst of it all stood a beauty he would like to greet.
