You tell me to take a picture

point the camera at myself and smile.

You don't understand that I can't.

When you look at the picture you see me,

I see a different person.

I see a failure,

a person with a past.

A person who has fallen in love too many times to count,

a person who has lost her heart.

A person who defines herself through who she likes.

A person who has no self-worth.

A person who writes to feel,

who smiles and laughs.

A person who doesn't like who she is,

or what she looks like.

A person who feels like her dreams are too big,

but dreams in color.

A person who wants many things in life,

but never chases her dreams for fear of getting lost.

A person who lost herself in all the people.

A person who fakes it.

A person nobody notices.

A person who compares herself to others.

This is what I see.

This is why I can't take

a selfie.
