Edinburgh Airport, 14:26pm.

I look over at my best friend Catherine over my mums shoulder as I give her the last hug she'll be getting from me for a whole year. My heart brakes more than it already is when I see my dad wiping his eye. I wrap both my arms around him as he holds me tight, not ready to have to let his girl go. I pull away slowly

"I'll be okay, I got my girl" I point to my best friend Catherine who's hugging her little sister. I look around and find my brother as he hugs me too, looking up as the voice from the lady behind the desk echo's around the room from the speaker

"Flight 05 to California is boarding now. Can all passengers make their way to the terminal entrance please". I pull away from my brother, turning back to my family as people begin to move around us

"I'll be fine. Please don't worry about me" I plead quietly, giving them all a hug before I turn and see Catherine waiting on me with a small smile. I walk over as our two families join together. We give the lady out flight tickets before walking down to the plane.

The air hostess shows us to our seats, seeing that we aren't sitting next to each other, but behind each other. I sit down, moving in my seat.

"You okay?" I ask quietly to Catherine as an old lady sits next to her, smiling with some missing teeth. Catherine rolls her eyes as she looks at me

"Mary, I'm not the one who's scared of flying" my friend teases me as she gets her headphones out. I look up as someone puts a bag on the sear next to mine as I straighten back in the seat. I smile at the old man who sits down slowly, sighing with a laugh when he sits down. I close my eyes and grip the arm rest as we take off a while later, Catherine putting her right hand through the seat to take mine and take it with a small smile as she gives it a reassuring squeeze. After a while her hand draws away slowly and I curl up in my seat, looking out the window. I think to myself, how are we gonna do this? What if something happens? I shake my head, needing the negatives bit out of my head. I put my ear phones in and turn on 5 Seconds of Summers new song 'Amnesia', closing my eyes and falling asleep quickly.

California.

"You have to be kidding me, right?" I ask in disbelief as the woman behind the inquiries desk at the airport says

"I'm sorry miss, your luggage somehow managed to get its way into a flight to Australia." I stare at her for a while, not being able to believe what she is saying. She clears her throat and straightens out the small smile she was wearing with her dark red lipstick. Catherine sighs and asks

"Well can when can we get the bag back?" she says, annoyance clear in her voice. I look around the empty room and begin to pace, remembering how my passport, money, cards where all in the bag. Along with my clothes and nearly everything else. Catherine comes over and stops me after a minute and says to me

"Mary its gonna be fine. They're gonna put your luggage on a plane here as soon as they can. You can borrow my clothes and everything for now yeah? I've got a taxi waiting to take us to the apartment." She rubs my arm comfortantly before she pulls me into her arms and hugs me tightly.

We walk out of the terminal with a bag short, sitting in the taxi ad he asks for the address.

"12 West Hill please" Catherine says ash she shuts her door. I watch as we drive through the city, smiling at all the lights and the people. When we pull up outside the tall, modern and beautiful looking flats, I smile. Everything will be fine. Catherine is so comfidant about this. But Catherine was confident that her hamster called Dylan wasn't really dead, that he was just sleeping. But that was 12 years ago... We're 17 now. Things are different.

The taxi driver helps us with the bags into the ground floor of the apartments where it almost looks like a hotel lobby. We're greeted by a middle ages woman, who's fake smiling shows how much she really doesn't care about us, only about the small fortune we are paying to buy one of these apartments with. Well, our parents anyway... She guides gives us our keys, tells us the rules. Like we are gonna cause havoc in other apartments. Just because we are two 17 year olds, doesn't make us party animals. Well, maybe Catherine. When we get to our apartment, the woman opens the door and let's us in, leaving us quickly but saying

"Enjoy ladies, and remember, we don't care what you do in this room, just keep the pleasure quiet." She shuts the door just as my jaw drops. I look at the closed door as Catherine bursts out laughing and I slowly turn around to face her

"Does Mrs Bobblehead woman think me and you are..?" I trail off, not wanting to say it. Catherine laughs more and nods

"Better keep it on a down low Mary" she says with a wink before she sobers up. She walks over to me and takes me by the shoulders and says

"If I WAS a lesbian I would kiss you right now. But I'm not, sorry. But babe! We're. In. Fucking. California!" jumps up and down excitedly in front of me before I laugh and reply

"Well no shit Sherlock!"
