**This is the old version. Please locate Chapter 1 - Sarai for the new version.

The year is 2020 and we are no longer alone on our planet called Earth. The world as you knew it no longer exists.

It all started four years ago on this very date, August 7, 2016. I can remember it as if it was yesterday morning.

"Sarai, get up its time for school," My stupid step-mom yelled at me from the bottom of the stairs.

It's a wonder that she even does that. I bet my father is sitting down at the table reading his newspaper and drinking his coffee and made her yell to me.

You see my birth mother died when I was a little itty bitty girl at the age of seven. My father loved her more than anything, but he moved on for me. Well that's what he keeps telling me.

"I want you to have a mother Sarai. You need one given that you are still a child," he sighed again because I've asked him a million times.

"But daddy, don't you want to marry for love and all that? Momma wouldn't like you to marry for me. You won't be happy," I spoke softly like a lady should. You see my mother taught me to be a strong young lady; which in turn made me grow up when she passed. I may have been 7 when she went to heaven, but my mind turned to 15, afterwards. I was an extremely smart and gifted young girl; or so my momma told me.

"Darling I am happy. I love Holly and I'm not only marrying her for you to have a mother. Yes that is one of the reasons, but I want to be with her too baby girl. Now there is no point in arguing with me Sarai, you are only 10 years old and I'm your father. You need to learn to listen to me more often."

With that said the father I knew and loved changed to one that I barely knew as the years passed.

I was now 17 years old and I still haven't learned to like one tidbit about Holly. She is bossy, brash, snobbish, self-important, crazy and the list goes on.

When she married my father she came with two baggages with names.

Patrick is the nice one, well sort of anyways. He has a military hair cut shaping his brown hair. Stands a foot taller than me at 6"5', with a body of a god, if I do say so myself. He may be my brother, but not one speck of DNA is the same so I am loud to say he is hot. I would never date him, because our parents are married and the fact that he sees me as his little sitter. Dating would be simply too gross. Patrick is the type of guy who would stop what he was doing to help a person out if they needed it. If an old lady needed her bags taken to her car he would do it without thinking. A kind heart beats within him, but a fierce and dominate one to protect the ones he loves; kind of like ying and yang.

The other baggage was Sean. He is polar opposite his brother, with the attitude anyways. The description changes only with black hair and he is two inches shorter than Patrick. I tend to stay away from Sean as best I can. He can blow up on family members in a heartbeat if he thinks he won't get his way. There was one time I wanted to go clothes shopping and he wanted to go to the movies; let's just say he won that by far.

I was no longer a daddy's girl any longer. Holly took that spot away from me and won't give it back. Yes she is his wife, but she gets all his attention. I believe the last time he came to one of my dance competitions was right before he got married; seven years ago.

I live with my best friend more often than here at my father's house. I'm surprised he even noticed I was home this morning.

"Young lady I will not be telling you again, get your ass down here right now or so help me I will take your cell phone away for a month!"

I believe she blew a lung on that scream. I wonder if my father could even hear now. Oh well he married her, he can live with it.

Ignoring her like I always do I shove two weeks' worth of clothing into my duffle bag and sling it over my head after I throw on a pair of jeans, t-shirt and flip-flops. I didn't like to stand out too much at school so I wouldn't dress slutty in the same way every other girl did. Grabbing my laptop, cell phone and both chargers I shove them into my bag as well. This would be a long two weeks and I didn't want to be left without a way to contact Patrick if I needed him. Making sure I have everything in my bag I close the door after walking through it.
