"I'm sorry but we can't go out on Friday. Something happened at home, so, yeah."

She choked back a sob and sent him a small smile.

"What happened?"

"Um, a family issue." It sounded more like a question than a statement. She sent him a nod and looked at the floor.

"I didn't eat for three days so I could be lovely."

And with that, she turned around and ran in the other direction as fast as possible.
