I played with my hair as I stared out the window at the airport. I was sitting in a black plastic chair as I waited for the announcement that would inform everyone on flight 696 was able to board the airplane.
I took out my iPod and slipped the headphones over my head. Attack Attack music blasted through the tiny speakers in my ears. I couldn't help but tap my feet to the
beat. I also had the urge to move my head but that would be pretty embarrassing.
I closed my eyes and let my mind drift off.
In a couple hours I would be at my aunt's beach house in sunny California. My cousin was going to be there too and last week over the phone we planned all the
things we were going to do.
My cousin, Aubrie, was like a sister to me. Even though we didn't leave near each other, we hung out whenever he could and we would tell each other everything.
Last summer she came over to my house in New York, so now it was my turn to go to her place. Not that I'm complaining or anything. California is a hot place with
hot guys. What more could I ask for?
I laughed to myself, but apparently it wasn't low enough because a voice asked, "Are you okay?"
My breath hitched as soon as my eyes opened.
Sitting across from me was a boy with that sexy emo hair that hangs low over one side of the face. His one eye that was visible to me was glistening with
amusement. The red lips on his face were turned up in a smirk.
I didn't realize I was staring until he said, "Like what you see?"
My face turned red but I wasn't going to let this guy step all over me.
I snorted while I answered, "More like the opposite."
"Yeah, then why were you staring?"
Damn. He caught me.
I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind. "I wasn't staring. My eyes were just.....resting."
From the look on his face, I could tell he didn't believe a word I was saying.
"On my face?"
I shrugged my shoulders for an answer.
He crossed his arms over his chest and lifted an eyebrow.
What's shoved up his butt?
My iPod was still playing music, so I focused my attention back on the current song, turning up the volume higher to block out the noise. As I was scrolling through
the songs I could feel the boy's stare on me but I didn't look.
After a few minutes of fighting with myself to not look up, I gave in. Our eyes met and we stared right at each other. Neither of us blinked as we had a stare down.
Five seconds had gone by.
Fifteen seconds.
Twenty five seconds.
Forty seconds.
BLINK!
My eyelid came down and back up.
Damn it, I blinked!
He smirked a little, clearly pleased he had won.
A pair of blue jeans came into view in the corner of my eye so I looked up to see who it was. A boy with a mess of blonde curls stood next to me. He had a set of
