Grunge is a term for what the music sounded like in the 90's. That's it. It was not coined by some band member's stoned mind. Soft grunge is not as 'grungy' as grunge grunge. I hope some fellow soft grungers can follow my vocab because I feel like I can't professor talk anymore tehe ;) xx
Grunge. Hard dry chords struck out in a gritty pattern, along with a shit load of dry ice and lighting that stays pretty much the same. The dancing can get pretty wild, like a house party, but you're wrecking stuff simultaneously. Soft grunge: mostly girls partake in this, smoking, tartan and leather, spikes, greasy hair (eyeliner just on either bottom or top of the eye) hardly any make up apart from lipstick. Flannel, flannel, flannel OMG. just go on YT it's inescapable. Oversized shirts to make you look smaller than you already are. Messy buns, Combat boots or again, converse. looking at the camera forlornly, or looking right into the camera, unashamed of their untidiness, even parading it around like it's a style...oh wait...it is. stick thin girls with daisies in their empty cigarette boxes. grey filters with gifs galore while they reblog TFIOS clouds on tumblr.
I haven't seen the movie, I adore horror and this seemed to soppy at the time. Plus I despise watching something I could read about first! anyhoo (is that still a thing? I swear everyone gets mad when I say it XD) Soft grunge is awesome. I'm confident everyone recognises the smiley face with crossed out fish eyes by now. They might not know it's like nirvana's coat of arms. Personally, i'm a soft grunger. It's becoming more socially clean to be 'dirty'.
