Moonlight Reflects In High Tides

only person she had

her mother .. left

many seasons ago

never to return

island is her home

every day is new

she observes whales

swims with dolphins

spears fish

daily meal

bananas .. coconuts

berries .. freely grow

she tries to forget

needs a soulmate

get her through lonely nights

often she ponders

what a lover

must look like

short .. tall

frail .. strong

many, many nights

she abruptly wakes

holding herself .. tightly

fevered caressing

goosebumps on her skin

gasping .. barely audible

she whispers to no one

these feelings unknown

eventually she falls back asleep

confused .. dreams of a faceless lover

ocean waves crash shoreline

moonlight reflects in high tides
