a/n: yes hello welcome to my book, have fun and enjoy your stay

p.s. the prompt has a grammar mistake in it and it brings me great amounts of rage (I say as I calmly lay on my bed, feeling only mildly annoyed as I type away with my thumbs)

They put me in a museum.

Trapped behind a bulky coat of ice and a thin sheet of glass, I can do nothing but watch.

I watch the people pass, stopping to read my plaque, gazing in wonder at my frozen body, tapping on the glass. Children cling to their parents' legs, breaking into tears of distress from seeing a living corpse.

It feels like I've been here a lifetime.

The memories of any past life I could have had have faded into mere wisps.

I am the test subject for cryogenic freezing. They wanted to preserve my body, keep me alive for five hundred years. It worked, but there's an issue. A massive issue.

I'm still conscious, and I have no way of letting anyone know.

    So I wait.

Days pass. Weeks, months, perhaps even years.

My sense of time betrayed me long ago.

I was lucky enough to open my eyes at the very last minute, just in case.

    Just in case.

In case of what? It's almost like I knew that this wouldn't work as planned. It makes me wish I could laugh.

Oh, how I miss laughing. Feeling that broad grin stretching across your face. The sound that escapes is simply magnificent, but the feeling is even better. Pure amusement, unhalted joy.

    I miss it so dearly.

Thinking of the things I miss won't help me in the slightest, but I can't help it.

    I just can't help it.

After all, what else is there to do when you're trapped with your own thoughts?

All you can do is think. Think and watch.

    So I watch.

    I watch the people,

    and I think,

    and I wait.
