I shook my head as I looked at the price of the dress in front of me. Why on earth were they all so expensive? I pushed away from the dresses and crossed my arms. This was becoming a problem. This ball--despite my first intentions of it--is supposed to be the biggest thing of the year. Since I'm not the type of girl to really participate in school functions this was my time to act like a normal teenager instead of staying at home and reading my lines.

Scarlett and Lena appeared next to me with their dresses in hand and smiles on their faces. But Scarlett suddenly frowned when she saw the frustrated expression on my face.

"What's wrong?"

"Too expensive." I mumbled angrily. "All of them are over  300 hundred dollars. This is ridiculous!"

Lena shook her head. "I can't believe this economy sometimes. You would think certain individuals would break down the prices after fully comprehending the complexity and abhorrent discoveries of the low minimum wage that business give out to young adults in this era." She finished her rant in a huff and Scarlett and I just stared at her.

"Did you get anything that just came out of her mouth?" Scarlett asked me.

"A little bit." I admitted.

Lena rolled her eyes at the both of us and jerked her in the direction of a sign. "Have tried looking in the clearance section?"

I looked towards the section and shook my head. "I didn't bother. You know how I get stuck in my frustrations."

"Boy do we know." Scar said. "Go ahead and look. I eye a perfect green dress too. Isn't that what you wanted?"

I looked to where she was pointing. A lime green gown with a sort of sparkle corset over took me. The dress was gorgeous, elegant and fancy yet simple and calming. Maybe it was the green or the corset but either way I'm in love. Like in a trance I walked towards the dress, without looking at the price and took it off its hanger. I pressed it against my body and held it up for the girls to see. I beamed in excitement just by imagining myself walking through the room in this gown.

"Wow." Lena said.

Scarlett raised an eyebrow at her. "You have this vast vocab and all you come up with is wow?" She looked at me with a smile and nodded. "But she is right. You look pretty damn wow."

"Thanks. But let's not get ahead of ourselves." I put the dress back where it was ignoring the sudden lonely feeling. "We haven't looked at the price."

"How much do you have anyway?" Lena asked.

 "150 bucks."

Scarlett walked towards the dress and grabbed hold of the tag. She whistled. "It's 200 books."

I groaned.

"Wait, before you spiral again Scar how much do you have left?" Lena asked eagerly.

"30 bucks."

"And I have 20. We could give the money to Violet and she would have enough for a dress. And I'm sure Scarlett you can let her borrow some of your green heels that would be perfect."

My eyes went wide and I shook my hands wildly. "No. No way. Not going to happen. We still have things to do remember? Our hair and stuff like that? What happened to that?"

Lena shrugged. "That can be for another time. We all got our dream dresses so why can't you?"

"Plus we can't have you coming to my ball looking like a bum right? And I say that in the nicest way possible." Scarlett said jokingly.
