Chapter 2- The Unexpected Opportunity

5 years later

Liam stood outside Dr.Knight’s room as he waited for him to return from his last procedure of the day. Dr.Knight had been waiting for him in the morning outside the hospital but then an ambulance had arrived with a young child that Liam happened to know so he had rushed to the scene, Dr.Knight had sent a message later in the day saying that Liam should come to his office before he left.

Liam had been waiting for twenty minutes and he was thinking of leaving, but then he heard voices.

“I wonder who is going?” said one.

“I think that he’ll send a younger one off, I mean because they are less experienced” another said.

Liam jumped as someone tapped him on the shoulder.

“You’re still here, I thought you might have left” Dr.Knight said unlocking his office with his silver key.

“No...I was...just waiting” Liam stuttered.

“Well take a seat” Dr.Knight took a seat in his black swivel chair and started to rummage in the stack of papers piled high on his desk.

Liam took a seat and looked up at Dr.Knight.

“Well, so here’s the thing” Dr.Knight began; he suddenly noticed that Liam was unusually quiet. He looked up at him and noticed that his face had gone rather pale and he looked quite scared.

Liam felt that he was being scrutinized and he plastered a small smile on his face.

“Yes so there is this fantastic opportunity that I think would be perfect for you, it’s in a hospital that’s a specialist in dealing with major heart surgery in children...the only thing is that it’s located in England...” Dr.Knight tailed off and he watched Liam carefully.

Liam did not want to give off am impression that he was happy and excited so he remained quiet and cast his eyes downwards.

“I think that it would suit you best, excellent wages attached too of course,” Dr.Knight asked Liam stroking his beard thoughtfully.

“Well...,” Liam was dying to say yes but his thoughts had moved to Summer, he knew she would be happy for him but she would not want to move to England.

“You just think about it then” Dr.Knight said abruptly getting up grabbing his briefcase and jacket “see you on Monday”

Liam walked out of the hospital slowly; he needed to think about this. It was an excellent opportunity to move back home, he just needed to break the news down to Summer in a way that she would agree that it was the best thing to do.

Summer was tired; it had been a long day at work chasing after Emily Howard whom Summer had officially labelled worst client of the decade. And when she came home she found the whole house in a huge mess; Liam’s sister had not done a good job, the children were in their pyjamas and Ava and Cayden had not done their homework or been bathed and Lilly was screaming the whole place down.

Summer had had to shout causing Lilly-Mae to scream and sob even louder which eventually led to her falling asleep; a little ball of fury covered in tears. Summer noticed that this was the way Lilly-Mae often fell asleep these days, but there was nothing she could do.

It was now half past six and Lilly-Mae was sitting in her highchair playing around with tiny pieces of cucumber. Ava and Cayden had tried to set the table and were now sitting squashed up on one chair colouring the picture they had made for their daddy.
