The Threat

I promised you the world, and left you out in the cold;
I could hear your teeth chattering through my door closed.
There was nothing I could do to save you from this;
The burden of a life potentially unlived.
So, as the flurries grow in fury, and the thought of you melts my memory,
I hope you never forgive me.
I will never forgive me.

We were the threat I needed to neutralise,
Happy families, full time jobs, intertwined.
Fearing the violence of a future in comfort,
A conflict within me, monochrome colored.
So, I threw the target on your back,
I sent out the troops, you were under attack.
You were the threat I needed to neutralise,
I couldn't bear the sadness locked in your eyes.

I saw a picture of us, waterfalls and big smiles,
It was a really hot day.
You told me you were in love, and you believed my lies,
You believed everything I'd say.
I'm sorry I was so callous and cruel,
I never meant to obliterate you.

Cacophonies and chaos,
Theatrics broken trust.
Men and their madness,
I was the end of us.
