Disclaimer:  This story is rated R for a reason.  It's not ridiculously inapropriate or anything, but it's mature.  There is swearing, drinking, talk about drugs and sex, even some slightly more adult topics.  I know that One Direction isn't in this chapter.  They don't come in until the 3rd one, but once they do they are there the whole time. I also know that some of my facts about them may be off.  I promise I know the real truth, but sometimes for the purpose of the story I have to change some things around.  Thanks for reading and let me know what you think!!  I really don't mind any kind of feedback, positive or negative.  You can either comment or message me on tumblr at http://duncastah.tumblr.com/faqask :) xx

Chapter One: (Narrated)

"We find the defendant," there was a brief moment of complete silence as Alice held her breath, "not guilty, your honor."  She felt her stomach tighten like she was going to throw up and a familiar pang of disappointment in her gut. Subconsciously she moved her hand to the bruise covering her stomach where he had kicked her and she lightly placed a few fingers over her two broken ribs.  She hadn't taken her eyes off of him the entire trial, but now she couldn't look at him.  Slowly she closed her eyes and let two tears fall off her cheeks.  She felt a warm hand on her shoulder as her attorney turned to her and she hugged and thanked him.  She watched Ryan, as he left the courtroom a free man.  She felt the same constant fear that had been taunting her since she was a kid take over her body.  Suddenly she felt someone tapping on her shoulder.  The pass attached to her blazer said she was a social worker.

"Allison Day?" She asked and she smiled as politely as she could.

"That's me, I go by Alice."  She didn't bother trying to smile, or be polite.

"I know this may come as a shock to you considering you've been on your own for so long, but you're only sixteen and according to the law you'll have to be placed in the foster care system…"  Alice faced the ground.  She had been avoiding this as long as possible.  "That is unless you have a family member who could take you in."  Alice's eyes shot up to meet the social worker's.

"I have a cousin," she beamed, "Daniel Day."  Daniel was like a brother to Alice and she knew he wouldn't mind taking her in.  In fact he had been trying everything he could to contact her for the past few years.  She felt a pang of guilt all of a sudden for never responding.

Alice and the social worker went back to her office and she looked up Daniel's contact information.  "It seems as though Daniel Day has moved to," she paused widening her eyes, "England."

"England?" Alice asked shocked.  She really has been away long.
