A Worn Path

I have fought,

Many times,

For those I love,

And each time,

My award is yet another scar.

I have tread the lover's path,

And have been bitten by venomous snakes,

I have done nothing to incur their wrath;

Soon, the heart will break and fade.

Behold, then, this worn path:

The trails are marked by trials, blood, and tears.

Anguish is the only word that applies to this path over the countless years.
