Trying to Find What's Missing

The dance was great! Jones was a sweet guy the whole time. He loved the little black dress. I still felt fat, but he said it fit just right.

Other people were less than kind. One cheerleader said I was just going out with Jones to get popular. Another said he only asked me out because he was dared to do it. Some of the guys teased that it was so he could get, well, what every guy wants.

When I came out of the bathroom, I was crying. Jones seemed worried, but I told him it was nothing. He persisted until I told him someone was saying mean things, but I didn’t say who. I wanted it to be a good night.

He invited me to church with him on Sunday. I am not sure I want to go. He said there is a great group for teens and it’s not as preachy as the adults’ service.

I am excited about the talent show coming up in a week. I signed up to sing a song. I haven’t decided what to sing yet. I guess I have to figure it out soon.

I think I will go with him. What’s it going to hurt?

I hope he asks me to be his girlfriend. I want him to. Maybe that’s all I need: a boyfriend. Someone who makes me feel good about me. He does that.
