Sacrifice chapter 3

"Courage isn't having strength to go on. It's having to go on when you have no strength."

Eyes are the windows of the soul, they say.

You know those eyes that you see in your nightmares?

Ones that hold so much anger and resentment that make you back away on sight?

Ones that look so broken and frustration that you feel the pain they hold?

No?

Just as I walked through the door, Carrie was dismissed by a nod. I reminded myself why I was here.

A new start.

Come on Waverley. Show them you can do this, you can BE someone. Taking a deep breathe I looked up, staring into the most frustrated eyes I've ever seen. So much anger and frustration carried within it, it scared me.

But what really caught my attention was that I saw sadness.

Loss, tragic, and love.

A broken soul of a lover.

The Alpha was a broad man, looking slightly uncomfortable sitting in the office. Deep frowning lines displayed on his face, salt and pepper hair showed that he was not as old as he seemed. His intense gaze gave nothing away, anger swirled in his eyes.

Laughing line on his face were faint and fading, he was a happy man. I thought to myself, but what happened?

"Hello, I'm Alpha Gould." his tone was clipped and cold, "Sit down and we'll have a chat."

I nodded numbly and quickly looked away. It was a sign of disrespect to look an Alpha in the eye.

I mentally slapped myself, way to go Waverley. Yeah, disrespect the Alpha the second you walk into the room.

Sitting down, I fiddled with the rips in my jeans as he spoke up, "The wife of my Beta has informed me that you wanted to join my pack."

I looked up and nodded, keeping my face showing not showing signs of fear. Do not let him think you're weak Waverley. You can get through this, I thought to myself.

"Yes, I wish to join your pack." I mumbled, focusing on his nose. I have the urge to stare into his eyes, light green almost grey in color. I could feel his calculating gaze on me, I shifted uncomfortably.

"Speak up girl." he growled, "Someone like you is useless to me. Why should I let you join my pack?"

Maybe it was the growling or the fact that in the last couple of weeks. I have been rejected, told I wasn't good enough and left my pack. Living in the wild for a little over 2 weeks and almost shot.

Now I'm being told that I'm useless, again?

If I wanted to change, then I better start now.

After hearing that,my head snapped to meet his eyes.

Putting my hand on the deck carefully, I glared at him. He watched for a moment and soon he began to growl at me. As Alpha he was not used to be challenged or talked back to. Even though he was not my Alpha; and probably never will be after what I just did; he can kill me.

"I have been through more then you can imagine in the past 2 weeks, I will not be called useless and tossed to the side again." I said lowly, in a cool voice I didn't know possessed.

He laughed mockingly, "Okay I'll bite. What have you gone through, oh-ferocious-wolf?"

I stared at his face as he mocked me. Hurt and anger flashed across my face, I abruptly stood up, knocking the chair back.
