There, he waits for me,

extending his hand in my direction.

His scrawny fingers are all I see,

filling my concience with the art of deception.

Standing there, he calls for my soul,

a mother's lullaby to my ears.

His eyes reflect the idea of a home

to this sullen soul, offspring of fear.

His darkness wraps around my mind,

a cold no corner of the Earth has seen.

Comfortable surrender I seem to find,

in a state of mind I have never been.

Slowly and all at once, I fall in his arms,

an embrace few learn to admire.

Lightweightness and a smile are born from this calm,

for this heroic sacrifice is what I aspired.

I slip from existence slowly...

ever so slowly,

taking with me the sight of night.

He usurps my body...

ever so boldly,

rescuing me, this idle victim of time.

Escaping the claws of the dragon that is life.
