Sweet Poetry

I Am At Rest

You ask the question, take a stand.

Your fingers inch, you take my hand.

You smile and laugh, and your eyes shine,

Softening as they meet mine.

The music starts: a lullaby.

You pull me close. I'm feeling shy.

We sway and step. The music's sweet.

I laugh as you step on my feet.

We grow closer, closing space

Until we dance in an embrace.

I lay my head upon your chest,

And finally, I am at rest.

A Galaxy of Love

You make me laugh,

You make me want more.

You show me the sunbeams

And teach me to soar.

You hold my small hand,

And helped heal my scars.

We danced on the moon,

And we kissed in the stars.

After You Fell Asleep

Roses are red,

Violets are blue.

I'm not sure why

You do what you do.

But I can't change

If you fall asleep,

So do me a favor,

As I count some sheep.

Sleep well and dream;

Dream of something sweet.

And if I think of you,

Maybe we'll meet

In a world of dreams

Where our thoughts can lie.

So dream on, dream on.

Goodnight and goodbye.

Our Poetry

I'm nodding along to the beat,

Listening to love songs on repeat,

Filling in the empty space

Left by lack of your embrace.

I turn my face towards the moon,

Thinking of hot air balloons.

You colored me onto a page

Far above my earthy cage.

"An early gift," you said to me.

You drew me flying, drew me free.

To you, I'd conquered starry skies

And skimmed horizons at sunrise.

I realized there is poetry

In both of us--in you and me.

For beauty isn't just in verse;

It's in the card that's in my purse.

It's coloring my birthday gift;

Drawing me and my soul lift.

My poetry is black and white,

But yours is sparkling in the light.

Tossed Rocks

You said, "see you at midnight." You're such a funny guy.

I laughed and turned and just went home, with no word of reply.

I did my chores and went upstairs and climbed up into bed.

I blasted music, texted friends, and just laid there and read.

We'd stayed up late the day before, texting into the night.

So at around 10:30, I just turned off my light.

I slept soundly and woke to run, got home and looked outside.

I just stared at my shingled roof. My mouth hung open wide.

"You missed your chance, you idiot! You missed your Romeo!"

Rocks were scattered on my roof, and also far below.

You asked me what had happened, and I just shook my head.

You'd tossed rocks at my window, and I'd just slept in bed.

Picturesque

Perhaps I'm a romantic,

or maybe just naive.

My guy friends aren't aware of this,

and girls just don't believe.

But I think it'd be picturesque,

if one day, all in white,

this little thing, so soft and pure,

is given in the light.

A tribute, promise, and a vow,

all showing one fall day--

a Catholic church, a wedding bell.

My dad gives me away.

My best friends all in matching dress,

my family in the pews.

The sun filters through maple trees

as we trade "I do"s.

And then, it comes, the final seal,

he last moment of truth.

Our bond is sealed with my first kiss,

which I've saved since my youth.

I have waited for "Mr. Right",

and now give him my heart.

He's my first kiss, and my great vow,

until death do us part.

The Wood

Through a strange series of events, I showed up at the wood

With nothing but my scooter, blanket, and a sweatshirt with a hood.

We walked through grass and over logs along a riverbed.

You took my hand and led me on, always a step ahead.

Scattered flowers, smooshed-down grass, and we were set to talk.

You laid down and I laid down too, tired from our walk.

And then your arms were around me, our heads not far apart.

I wrapped my arms around your waist and listened to your heart.

I am unsure of just how long we laid there in the grass.

It could have been a split second, or ten years could have passed.

All I know is: since that time, I've never felt so good.

I felt so genuinely loved, that one day in the wood.
