Was It Just A Summer Fling?

Chapter 1: Elizabeth’s POV

I glanced outside the window at the sunshine of the first day of summer. I should be at the mall with Nikki buying clothes for the warm weather but of course, I’m on my way to my godmother, Lou’s house to babysit her 10 month old baby, Lux. Lou was my mom’s younger sister, also known as the Teasdale sisters. My mom had me at 16 and Lou was there for her through all of it. It made them exceptionally close. My mom was now 34. I didn’t mind babysitting for Lou, I loved Lux like she was my little sister, even though she was my cousin. She had me wrapped around her little pinkie finger. Lou said I was one of the very few people that could calm her down when she was upset and that I should feel very special. And I did.

I locked the front door of the two bedroom apartment I shared with my best friend, Nikki behind me and treaded down the stairs. I unlocked the gate of the entrance to the building after waving to the lobby man, Derek politely and started my 15 minute walk to the familiar country house. We’d just moved here 6 months ago but I had managed to have a little conversation with him here and there about simple things like the weather or the snobby family that also lived in this building that always flaunted around their money like it grew off of trees. I grimaced as the first time I made contact with the mother came into mind.

I walked into the apartment building that now held my home in my grey trackies and white tank top that showed some of my flat belly. I honestly loved my body. It was the only thing I liked about myself. I jogged every morning since I was thirteen.

I was walking up to Derek to say a 'Good Morning' when a resident I hadn't met before walked in. She looked like she was going to a fancy restaurant. I hadn't met her before and I decided I wanted to know as much people that lived here as possible. I loved making new friends and I hated not knowing somebody.

"Hello. I don't believe we've met before. I just moved in here with my friend, Nikki. We live in Apartment B12. What's your name?" I said holding out my hand for her to shake.

She looked appalled by my statement and scoffed. She dug in her purse, my hand still held out, and pulled out a crisp 100 dollar bill, placing it in my hand and quickly walking back up the stairs to her apartment. I held up the bill and raised my eyebrows before shrugging and sticking it in my pocket. Not going to let money go to waste, am I right?

I walked up the driveway and stepped up the two steps to the red front door just as it was pushed open by my uncle, Tom. He looked at me and smiled before stepping aside to let my auntie, Lou out. “Hey, Liz. How are ya?” He said in his deep British accent before kissing my cheek and embracing me in a short hug.

“Okay, you?” I replied with a grin, to the both of them.

“Excited to spend the night with this lovely lady.” He said squeezing the 28 year old in a side hug as her cheeks tinted a slight pink.

“Well aren’t you just the charming young lad?” I winked at him as I made my way into the house. “Where’s Lux?”

“She’s asleep in her room. She probably won’t wake up for a while since we fed her before she fell. Give her about six hours? But we’ll be home by then so there’s no problem really. Just check up on her-“
