"Mom? What's going on outside?" I asked. I had just turned 13 that day. Dad left the house after a siren outside went off.
Mom took me to the bunker. We had a door in my parents' closet to get to the bunker. She ushered me down the tight, narrow stairs. "Stay down there. I'll come back and get you when everything's fine." Mom told me and closed the door, leaving me in the damp and dark.
I sat there. For how long, I don't know. All I know, was my mother never came back for me...
