Not long ago, my mother passed
Beyond the pain of life.
Her earthly joy for sixty years
Was as my fathers wife.
He did not cry or say goodbye,
He simply said "So long",
Reminding me again, about,
An old Tex Ritter song.
"Just Beyond the Moon" had air play
When I was a boy.
The staying partner of the couple
Lived in hope of joy.
It felt the same, when "Love Me" played,
That song by Colin Ray?
A grandson awed by Grandma's note,
And what it had to say.
I see, just like Dan Folgelberg,
My leader's growing old,
And soon, by cosmic measured time,
His own tale will be told.
Behind my eyes, when his flight leaves,
I'll watch their joyful greet.
Beyond the moon, between the stars,
As, young again, they meet.
As above, it was below
Their worship strong and loud.
I cannot see them idle there,
Just lounging on a cloud.
As David danced before his God,
On streets of gold, they too,
Will caper through eternity
With feet made once more new.
They're soul to soul, and heart to heart,
This granted from above.
They'd never more to be apart,
Secure in their great love.
