Chapter 23

            Target set.

            Gaze locked.

            My head peeped up from behind some car, and my eyes narrowed in on his figure. He was leaning against his stupid car. Talking to some girl. “Oh Landon,” she was probably saying, “you’re so sweet!”

            And he was probably calling her some cute nickname and asking her to dance, just like he did to me. Meanwhile, though, he’d be thinking, “This one’s definitely next for the kill.”

            He was definitely A, wasn’t he? All the signs pointed to him. He had my necklace; he tricked me into thinking he was nice; he wrote that creepy note.

            He never signed it as A though. A always signs his notes.

            That was beside the point though. He was just plain creepy. He gave me the chills. He was definitely hiding something.

            He was reaching into his pocket now. Could it be a knife? The same knife A held to me last night? Would he stab the girl right into the middle of the school parking lot—

            “Hey, creep.” Suddenly there was another body crouched down beside me.

            I yelped, whirling my head to the side and falling on my butt as I lost my balance.

            Brown hair, green eyes, Zayn Ryder. “What?” I screeched.

            “You’re touching my baby.”

            My eyes popped out of their sockets. “Excuse me? You have a baby?”

            “Er, my car, Violet. You’re touching my car.”

            My moth formed an “O”. “What the frick, Zayn. Your car is not a baby.”

            He snorted. “Yeah, and you’re not awkward. What the hell are you doing?”

            I made a slight frown, huffing. I was awkward. “I’m catching a criminal in action, so SHHH."

 

Zayn started laughing. “Did I hear that right? You’re catching a criminal in action?”

I glared at him. “Go away.”

“Well, if you’re gonna be catching a criminal, you’re probably gonna need my gun.”

My eyes bulged out of their sockets. “Y-your g-gun?”
