sweet dreams

2014

We sit face-to-face,
Our eyes blending into one another.
But we do not speak.
We do not even dare to mutter.

Instead, I pretend
You are a mere figment
Of my tragic imagination.

The irony is buried deep within.
For in reality, the only wrong I've committed
Is wasting away in a daydream.

To feel important and talented,
That is all I desire.
To be recognised for who I am,
Not this façade I've seemed to hire.

You see me as the girl
With no opinion and little to say.
I am only so lost because
They have made me this way.

My life is in a constant state
Of suffocation;,
In which I often
Make the wrong decision.
But if this is my only choice to make,
I live a life not worth living.

And I've only scratched the surface
Of what I truly wish to say.
If the opportunity presented itself now,
I would gladly leave and go my own way.

I do not aim to be selfish,
What I want is to be free.
To finally shatter these chains,
Which have too long enslaved me.

Before you pass a judgment,
Before you give non-optional advice,
Take a second, open your eyes,
And imagine living my life.

You'll find yourself living
In a beautiful nightmare.
It's nothing short of the sweetest dream.
If I soon uncover my determination,
Perhaps, for once, soundly I will sleep.
