A righteous Sam looks in the glass.

He brags on what he sees.

"Tonight, I'll let their insults pass -

Then bring em to their knees! "

"Those snotty priests and Levite creeps

Have said their last to me!

And, when they beg to be my peeps,

My dust is all they'll see! "

Sam washed himself in pompous ass

And dried with vanity.

Red socks of sanctimonious

He pulled up to his knee.

His trousers knit of allgood deeds.

His blouse of charity.

He wore a cloak of want and need...

Hat? - - holier-than-thee.

Vindicated!  Sam raised a fist

"Tonight, they all will see!

They've always thought that they're the best...

FROM NOW ON THEY'LL FEAR ME! "

"I showed em that they got no cred!

Sam IS the man to know!

When you're beg'n a handout bed,

On Desolation Row."

Epilogue:

Poor Sam

Still feels terrible.

All he got - for his money -

Was a parable.
