Ode to Cookies

Fresh.
Warmth.

The door opens.
I am overwhelmed by your aura.
But not to the point of stress.
Just blissfullness.

It is agony,
Waiting for you.
When you are not yet suitable.

I wait in silence.
Entranced by you.
Knowing we are face to face,
But not being able to touch.

Yet, if we wait too long,
You harden.
You will still be wonderful,
But not as much as the first bite.

Then finally,
Fate allows us to meet.
I pick you up gingerly,
Feeling the warmth radiating from you.

Our whole lives,
Leading up to this moment.
My lips touch you.
I taste melted chocolate.
And it warms my soul.

I embrace you,
I missed you,
Chocolate Chip Cookie.
