My priority was to keep Kim safe, but when you see someone get shot in front of you, your brain doesn't function correctly. So, my first reaction was to run towards Violet. I placed Violet in the back seat with the black scarf I had around me; I wrapped it around her wound. I squeezed the scarf tight against her stomach. She didn't make a sound, but I could feel her body tense up.

The bullet didn't go through any major organs, but she seemed to be losing a lot of blood. I rushed towards the driver’s seat and changed the car into drive; I sped through the traffic.

When I passed through the shooting scene Kim was already surrounded by the body guards in the Blue House. That's why I didn't bother to go check on Kim. The Blue House would be on top of her in a matter of seconds, and they would have probably forgotten about Violet.

I hit the brakes in front of my house. I got out of the car and ran to the back seat. Violet remained unconscious. I picked her up, running inside the house.

"Kalen! Kalen!" I screamed out for her.

Kalen appeared from the living room with a bowl of porridge in her hand. She stuffed a spoon full in her mouth before proceeding towards me.

"What is the yelling all-" She let the bowl slip out of her hand.

It smashed against the wooden floor splattering everywhere. Kalen launched herself at me. She kept eye-bawling me than Violet.

"I need you to clean off the dining table!" I demanded.

She ran past me, wiping everything off the table. The beautiful flower vase that I had spent hours making smashed against the floor. The fine china my mother had gave Kalen broke into millions of tiny pieces.

I placed Violet down, carefully. "What the hell happened to her?"

"She got shot!" I responded, digging into the drawers.

Kalen tore off Violet’s shirt exposing her bare flesh. On the left side of her stomach was a tent where the bullet had passed. My stomach twisted in disgust from the wound. Kalen checked her pulse and by the faces she kept making, they didn't seem good.

"We can't save her here. She hardly has a pulse and she lost a whole lot of blood." I heard her say.

I didn't say anything. If Violet needed to be taken to the hospital then I would take her. But right now that wasn't one of my options. If I took her to the hospital she would probably get killed.

"Just listen to me carefully; bring me a knife and first aid kit," she hesitated but she finally gave in to my order.

Kalen came back with the materials I had asked for. I opened the first aid kit and pulled out peroxide and a bandage. Then I grabbed the knife and the lighter; sterilizing it. Never in my life did I think I would have to do this to someone. I always imagined doing this in an operation room with nurses but instead, I was in my dining room trying to save someone’s life.

College doesn’t teach you these types of things. They only prepare you for the easy stuff. Did they ever expect for us to save someone who wasn’t in the hospital? I exhaled luring the knife towards the wound.

“Kalen hold her down.” I said to her.

“What? You’re not planning to take out the bullet with her being conscious!” She freaked out.

“I have no choice. She is passed out, but just in-case.”

Kalen bawled up her fist, fighting with herself about whether she was able to do it or not.

The metal tip of the knife entered through Violet’s skin. My hands trembled, knowing if I stabbed her too deep I could kill her. Sweat rolled down my forehead and neck.
