Since I didn’t know my way through the woods, I had to take the road route. I didn’t mind, gave me a chance to clear my head and enjoy the open space by myself. There was a light blanket of snow covering everything, not enough to worry about but enough to make me smile and place me in a good mood.

I was nice and toasty in just a pair of black skinny jeans and white shirt with a matching black vest. My old converses of which Peter had done a finder’s spell for me back in New York graced my feet, making my path sure and true. I stole Peter’s leather jacket just so I would have something of his other than the amulet around my neck.

This was nice. Even though it was dark and slightly cold. Not that the cold was bothering me but I could feel my toes starting to feel the effects of the snow I was walking through. By the time I was halfway to my father’s house, I was tired of being alone and since I could feel a ghost lingering around, and I knew exactly who it was, I decided his company wouldn’t be horrible.

So I stopped and looked in the direction his ghost vibes were coming from.

“Alright, Erik. But I’m warning you now, if you annoy me you’ll go back to being invisible. Got it?”

A cool breeze blew in my direction, shaking some of the snow off the branches above me so it would drop on my head. Nice. I was going to turn him solid and he was dumping snow on me.

He was so kind.

I concentrated and his outline shimmered into existence. Then the outline began to have features and then with a quick succession, he was completely solid and standing in front of me.

Air was released from my lungs and I cocked an eyebrow at him. He was grinning from ear to ear and I shinned my flashlight on him so I could see his face.

“Do you mind? That thing is really bright.”

“All the better to see you with, my dear.”

He rolled his eyes. “Now you’re the big bad wolf? Interesting choice, Earth Girl.”

“Remember what I said.” I down casted my flashlight and started walking again.

“If you want my two cents, I think this trip will be for nothing. I’m pretty sure your father had everything packed up and shipped to a storage unit.”

I rolled my eyes. “Well, believe it or not, I know what I’m doing. Miracle, isn’t it?”

He didn’t say anything in response, choosing to traverse with me the rest of the way in silence. Only when we were standing outside the gate of my former home did he say anything.

“Do you remember the code?”

“It’s my birthday. How could I possibly forget that?” I typed in the numbers but nothing happened. “Power must still be off. Hmm.” I stared at the gate for a moment. “Guess I’m going to have to hop it.”

“And possibly break your neck? No. This errand can wait until morning…what are you doing?”

I’d ignored his opinion and walked up to the actual wrought iron fence. I’d climbed it a few times before, just to prove to myself I could, and knew it could hold my weight. The only difference was I did it in the daylight. Right now it was pitch black and there was snow on the iron. Considering I was now running warm, the snow would melt and I could possibly slip.

Resulting in a broken bone or like Erik just suggested, a broken neck.

So hardcore it was going to have to be.

Only problem was I still didn’t have a handle on my air magic. It was my weak spot, having never been able to control it. Usually it only sprung up when I really needed it. So…
