“Delilah, it’s been a week, darling.” My mom chirped from outside my door, her voice full of concern and tinged with tiredness. “Come out, love. Your dad has been calling non-stop. He’s worried about you as well.”

Guilt filled me at the last sentence. I had been moping around for no reason, well not no reason but I still didn’t want my dad to worry especially when he was already so busy with his condition and job. My eyes watered at my selfishness before I snapped out of it.

Since when did I become such a cry baby? I slowly got up and threw the blanket away before slowly padding towards my door and leaning in to see whether my mom was still there or not. After a minute, I heard a sigh and feet going down the stairs. Rushing into the bathroom, I jumped into the shower, letting the water wash away one week old grime and dirt. I dressed up into my brown jeans and a check shirt, pulling my hair up into a high pony. The water dripped onto my neck from my dark brown damp hair and slid down my back. Grabbing my car keys, I opened the door, trying to be as quiet as a mouse. Before I could even close my door, my mother appeared out of nowhere and pulled me into a bone crushing hug. Her cookie dough scent surrounded me and I inhaled deeply, my mouth watering at the thought of cookie dough.

“You’re out! At last! I swear if you hadn’t come out today, I would have broken down the door with a spatula.” Mom blabbered on, squeezing me tightly. “Darling, you know, He wasn’t worth it. First heartbreaks are always hard but they are a part of life so don’t let it affect you so much and don’t you dare, Delilah Waters, try to shut me or your friends out again or I will bring out the spatula!”

I nodded, fully understanding what my mom meant. I had never been a cry baby nor was I some girly girl who was desperate for a boyfriend. I was just disappointed.

“I am going to go check on Aladdin. I haven’t seen him for a week.” I said, slowly backing away from my mom’s arms. Her light brown hair was pulled up into a loose bun with a few grey strands of hair falling around her face.

“That’s a good idea, Delilah but don’t you dare cry again or…..the spatula.” Mom said, her eyes holding a stern glint. The spatula threat was my mom’s most common threat and when I laughed about it once, she actually took out a spatula and chased me all over the house with it.

Nodding, I smiled at her before giving her a quick peck on the cheek and going down stairs.

When I reached the riding stables, I parked my blue beetle in one of the spots nearest to the entrance. I might ride horses but doesn’t mean I am not lazy in other things. I waved at the different stable boys and workers whom I had known since I was eight. Entering the stables, I automatically walked towards my destination where a dark brown horse stood. His beautiful coat was absolutely clean and his back mane shined as if it was from some shampoo advertisement. The horse looked up and it’s chocolate like eyes connected with mine. Letting out a low neigh, it came closer towards me.

“I missed you too, Aladdin.” I said, petting him.

He let out a whine before nuzzling into my neck. I gently hugged him, letting his scent surround me. My father showed me Aladdin when he was just a baby and slowly as I grew up, so did he and when I had learned how to ride a horse, Aladdin became my horse and since that day Aladdin has been my best friend too. I have other friends, of course but I am not that close to any of them so Aladdin is the friend for me though sometimes I wish he was human. Letting out a sigh, I grabbed the saddle and guided Aladdin outside. I rode him for an hour, forgetting about everything and just letting the air whip my hair as I rode on one of the beautifulest creatures on earth.

“Delilah!” A familiar voice called, making the blood drain from my face. Looking up, I met the one person who had made me cry for a whole week. His blue eyes glittered in pity and his usually mop of hair was pulled back with the help of gel. “How have you been?”

“I’ve been good, Drew. What about you?” My voice sounded odd to me, it came out even but it was a bit too formal for my liking.

“Good.” He replied, shoving his hands into his pockets and shuffling his feet awkwardly.

“What are you doing here? I thought you hated horses or anything related to dirt or me now.” I said, my words coming out like a sneer.

“I do hate…..I mean Horses, not you. I am here because my little monster cousin has a thing for horses and wanted to see them.”

“Oh okay.”

We stood awkwardly for a minute when suddenly Aladdin let out a loud neigh causing Drew to make a disgusted face. It almost felt like Aladdin was saying “Let’s go before I kick this guy in the nuts.”

Without another word, I turned back and rode my horse to the stables. My eyes filling up as I thought of every good memory I had with Drew. Once I was off Aladdin, I couldn’t hold it in and burst out crying. My tears falling silently to the ground. Aladdin tilted his head and came towards me as if to comfort me and I threw my hands around his neck.

“Two years…..two whole years we went out and he just broke up with me because Kyla noticed him. I was just someone to keep him busy while he drooled over the most popular girl in school. He’s an assbutt, asshole, a stupid mundane, a puny muggle, a cunt….”I rambled on, my voice getting slower and slower until it was merely a whisper.

Aladdin let out a frustrated whine and moved his head.

“Yeah yeah I know, I am being whiny but it sucks when you are thrown away like yesterday’s trash after two years.” I knew I was being crazy by talking to myself but I had done it so many times that it had become a habit for me to talk to Aladdin who right now was shaking his head viciously. I smiled at the frustrated horse before hugging him and whispering.

“I really wish you were a human. My start of 2014 hasn’t been the best. 1st January, I lost my boyfriend and cried a river and now I feel like a cry baby.” I mumbled on as Aladdin lowered himself and I sat down next to him, leaning on him. Blabbering on, I went to sleep not knowing that tomorrow may bring a surprise that may or may not turn my life slightly upside down. I didn’t know that tomorrow I would experience the saying ‘be careful what you wish for.’
