Prologue
Months ago, a war struck our homeland. We didn’t run, we didn’t hide. We stood and watched as our armies fought against the forces that we could not control. They had struck overnight, rising everyone out of their warm beds and waking children from their slumber. Houses shook, fire lit up the sky, and bombs made our hearts race as loud as the chaos outside. We had no warning of the Other’s arrival. There were no signs, no unordinary sightings that day. Nobody could have predicted the sudden changes we would have to face, and the losses we would have to endure. Our lives had changed forever.
