On the fifth day, he asked me my name.

"Why?"

My voice came out as accusing and suspicious, but he was unfazed.

"You've been coming around a lot. I thought maybe we could be mates." He leaned against the rack, smiled down at me. I felt sick to my stomach.

"I don't have friends." I don't need friends.

"Yes, you do," he said, rolling his eyes, and for a short moment, I thought maybe was some truth to that. "You have me now."

I stared at him. A millions thoughts raced through my mind. Where was the gotcha? When was he going to leave me alone? When was he going to give this up?

"I'm Luke," he told me, and so the mysterious blonde boy had a name.

I hesitated for a long moment before replying.

"I'm Jamie."
