Prologue

Breathe in.

The air pushing my hair back as I run around my block.

Breathe out

My mind racing from everything that's happening.

Breathe in.

I can't believe it. Me, of all people!

Breathe out.

The letter, the shock. My mom!

Breathe in.

Why would she say that? Why would she force me to do what she wants.

Breathe out.

I can raise the money on my own! I can become famous! I can get the lead and I can work my butt off to get it!

Breathe in.

I'll raise all the money this week. I can start now. Or tomorrow. I can get my friends to help!

Breath out.

Sponsors, cans, car washes. Everything can be so easy if I just set my mind to it.

Breathe in.

I can even ask Mr. Edwardson. He's kind. And rich. He gives money to the theater arts.

Breathe out.

I stop as I reach the big black fence. I catch my breath. I walk to the buzzer. My heart races but I don't care. I press the button.

"Hello." I hear his voice come from the box.

"Hello Mr. Edwardson. Are you busy?" I ask him in my innocent voice.

"No, I'll let you in." He says to me. He's always known who I am when I buzz. The gate opens and I walk through. I run up the pathway and through his garden dodging the rabbits that run free. I walk up to his overly large door and enter.

“Mr. Edwardson? Where are you?” I yell out to him hearing my echo through the house.

“In here darling!” I hear him scream back through my echoing voice. Our voices collide and as they do I smile. I walk into the large living room and take a seat on their floral loveseat. “Now what can I do for you?” He asks me from his place on his couch.

“Well you see there was this letter sent out to some people. I’m not exactly-”

“My son got one, I know exactly what you’re talking about!” He says interrupting me.

“Well the reason why I came here is that my parents won’t pay for me to go, I have to make all that money this week or I can’t go.” I say to him as he nods. He stands up and comes closer to me.

“So you want me to give you money to go?” He asks sitting next to me. He’s really an odd person. He wears a purple suit with frills all over it. He wears a hat just like the mad hatters and it seems today he glued buttons on his face.

“Yes, that would be very much appreciated.” I tell him and he looks to the ground confused. Then he looks up with a smile.

“Fine, I’ll pay all way. It’s just airfare right? Then some money for the meal passes until you get your first pay?” He asks, he seems more excited than I am with his jumping around.

“Yessir, are you paying for Louis too?” I ask him wondering if he’ll actually let him go, me and Louis, together, in the same dorm as it would have to be that we’re being paid for by the same person. The guy that I’ve had a crush on for the longest time.

“Yes, I sure am. He’s excited. Well, you better scurry off to your home. I bet your mother is waiting for you to arrive.

“Thank you! You won’t regret this!” I tell him and run out of the house.

Oh my god, I can’t believe he’s doing this for me. My dreams are finally coming true! Both of them hopefully. I’ll get to be on Broadway and I’ll get to be with Louis. Nothing can get better!

Wicked, I am going to be In Wicked! I don’t care if I don’t get a big part! Wicked! My dream!

I run back to my house as fast as I can and burst through the door.

“Mom! Mom!” I yell to her.

“Yes sweet heart! I’m in here! Calm down why don’t you!”

“No, I can’t mom! I got the money! I’m going to Broadway!”
