Almost and Maybe

"Almost is failed potential." We all seem to be obsessed with "almost", that two syllable adverb that gives us a some sort of hope or even sadness that comes from our unreachable goals. "I almost took the leap", "I almost kissed them", "we almost made it..". But what if you had? Would things be better? Would they remain the same?. Then you think to yourself, maybe, just maybe if that would of happened.. Etc. It sparks some type of idea in our heads that things would be better or maybe even worse. It gives us just the slightest illusion that we can go back in time and change that, but then that would corrupt the future and or present. The butterfly effect for example; It is, "the phenomenon whereby a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere." Considering that theory to be true, if you were able to go back in time to change whatever mistake you or someone else had made, of course you would not be the same now/ today. For example, if someone had saved Anne Frank from being taken into a camp or if her father had not shared her diary; People in this day and age who have not encountered that awful point in time, would be absolutely clueless as to who she (Anne Frank) and her family was. Even if she had survived, she could've possibly died an even worse death. Let's say that you had a crush on someone but were just too scared to do anything about it or even if you dated them and something happened between you two in which you had separated. Now you miss them and wish that you could go back in time and fix every little problem and have it so you two never broken up. Just think on how that would mess with the future. They might not have been the right one and could turn out to be absolutely atrocious. Or you might miss your chance to find a better love, and build a better life. There are an abundance of possibilities that could happen or that would've happened if something in the past had changed, whether it be good or bad. A good thing about the past is that you learn from your mistakes, you really do. You might think at the time that nothing will ever be the same or be right and you should just give up. You are correct on how things will never be the same, but maybe that is for the best. In the moment you do not know if the future will be bright and sunny or cold and dreadful. But if you had faced both in the past, considering you have, you still might not know how to handle it or even change the situation but at least you have some kind of insight on how to cope and maybe even change things for the better. Nobody but you, has the power to change how you feel or how you can become better. People might help, but it is you that has full control.Remember, this too shall pass, and if all else fails learn from an oyster and turn your sand into a pearl.     3/26/17    10:04 pm
