D.O.K. chapter 2: More Undiscovering

“Do you think that I already know this place that where we are going to?” I asked Rythe, hoping that it was a good place. Rythe decided not to answer, but I feel his pace quicken as if he was anxious about what I will think.

I listen to the regulation of his breathing and feel the muscles work in his arms and chest as he went through neighborhoods and alleyways. I involuntarily shivered as a wisp of wind flew by my face. Rythe was going so fast that it compared to having my face out of the window going 90 MPH in 7 degree weather. Needless to say, if I was human, I would have had been showing signs of hypothermia by now. So I did the only thing I could do to get warm, I snuggled closer to his chest.  I heard him chuckle softly, and his grip on me tightened.

The city seemed to fly by as he ran. Even I, with my vampire speed wouldn’t possibly be half a match to his. Before I knew what was happening, his pace slowed, and then stopped. I couldn’t see much because Rythe was blocking my view, as he put me back on my feet.

“Rythe, I can’t see!” I complained, whining but he still didn’t move out of my eyesight. I groaned with frustration, and looked him in the eye trying to figure out what was going on inside that head of his. Rythe’s eyes were bright with amusement, and surprisingly enough, challenge.

Then in a sing song voice, almost like a young child, Rythe sung out, “You have to give me a hug first.” He looked so proud of himself, like he was a genius for thinking of the thought or something. I couldn’t help but laugh at his antics as I stepped into his embrace. But my laughter almost immediately ceased, as did Rythe’s. We couldn’t help but try to get even closer to each other’s necks, our scents entrancing each other in a daze. I didn’t want to let go, it was like I couldn’t anyway if I tried. It was hypnotic, and I found myself attempting to bury my face even closer to his neck, as he was doing the same to mine. Suddenly Rythe went rigid, and pulled away, his face looking flushed with embarrassment. To say the least, it was adorable.

“Um, sorry about that Unitika. I got a little carried away.” Rythe told me, while smiling sheepishly at me.

As soon as my mind came back around, I smiled at him, replying, “Don’t worry about it. Besides it’s not like you were the only one doing it either.” I found myself grateful that I didn’t have enough blood in my system, or I would have looked like a tomato by now. When I really focused I realized I hadn’t been able to take in my surroundings yet.

I moved past Rythe, and when I was able to look, what Is saw surprised me. We were on an indistinguishable street, but that wasn’t what made me let out a gasp. No, it was the building in front of us. A place so unique, so beautiful, that it literally took my breath away.

The building’s architecture itself was amazing. The effect was as grand as the Taj Mahal, but it wasn’t made out of polished rock. The small columns of support had designs inscribed into them, making them look ancient and mysterious. The partially stained glass doors held more of the same inscribed insignia, intertwined in colors and pictures. The granite stoned flooring seeming to circle the building appeared smooth like the surface of water.
