Words escape under midnight moon
The sight takes my breath away
Eyes are closed and yet I see
The past is plain and clear to me
Regret and sorrow fills me up
Tears form rivulets down my face
And yet my heart thumps on
Slowing, yes, slowing
Pounding out every beat with grace
Surely this isn't it all
Surely there's more than this
And yet I feel nothing
No pain or ache or bruise
Still my eyes are closed
Still I see everything
Still I hope for more
Before my breath is gone
Heart still and silent
Reaper's come to take from me
The only thing I have left
This can't be all
I can't go yet
And yet the light, it slips away
And yet my heart, it stops today
