I put my umbrella down that day

When the rain drenched it down for me to stay

I had come across a mysterious place

Destiny forbade that fateful chase

My eyes beheld the alluring portal

T'was an entry for a sunken mortal

It beckoned me to come inside

The gate announced with arms opened wide

My heart was thumping like drums of war

When I saw a man right from afar

He held a mask right to his face

And ushered me inside the lowly place

His hands were warm as he grasped my shoulder

Oh, the warmth I craved when my nights were colder

I looked up and down the mysterious house

It was stern and wide like it had a spouse

The walls were red and the floors were crimson

Dark and dusty and it seemed like arson

I glanced at the mask that pasted a smile

As he escorted me down this beautiful aisle

Then I beheld the unending view

Of gems and rubies that sparkled like dew

Millions of gems piled in the shelves

For us, t'was a library but of treats for the elves

I leaped and got a bird's-eye-view

Of Gold, silver and gems colored blue

And of each one locked inside a jar

Hidden treasures non can mar

But these treasures were marked from A to Z

I asked him and he giggled with glee

"Each one is a gift, each of a different owner

Some I stole from a lonesome loner"

He still had this smile that I could not conceive

A smile so disturbing so to deceive

"Some are taken back, and the others I get to keep

Yea, to some owners they just leave and weep"

I continued to marvel at the glimmer and shimmer

But the collector sat and the lights grew dimmer

I took off his mask and he was shedding tears

Tears locked up for a thousand years...

"Why do you weep when you have such a great collection?

Diamonds and pearls, oh! This is perfection.."

"Truly, I am proud for having all these rewards

Once these gems were whole, but now they're just shards"

Then he ushered me back to the narrow way

"They're rewards I get for the games I play...

But now I'm not so sure if I want to play anymore.."

His smile made the rain pour on the front door

"Oh, I will come back.. It's always a pleasure...

Maybe some time, I will give you a treasure..."

"No, my own treasure is yours to keep

'Til the time I will forever sleep..."

The rain was angry and the winds blew

But, the collector's smile then grew and grew

I waved goodbye and promised to come back

To put a little treasure inside his shack

But, I was Fervent to ask the collector one more thing

Though the storms have flown with a faulty wing

"Is your collection diamonds? Gems? or fiery darts?"

Then he said so truthfully... "No.. I once collected hearts.."
