The one word I’ve always heard my entire life. It’s strange how two tiny letters strung together to form one syllable can ruin a life… or fix one. How that one word forced me to walk away from everything I had ever dreamed of.
It wasn’t like I walked away without a fight. I fought tooth and nail for a chance at a normal life, a chance for everyone to see my humanity. To show the world I wasn’t just another brick in an ever expanding Great Wall. That I wasn’t another speck of sand buried beneath the never ending ocean of desert.
It was just hard, that’s all. It’s hard to fight back when you have no voice. When you have no strength, when you have had the carpet ripped from under your feet with such violence that every time you fall and break your bones. It’s hard when no-one believes. It was just easier to give up, especially when you have no voice.
Especially when you have no voice.
