For those who remind me not to let go

When wrinkles crinkled your shirt
Not your face
Your mother used to chide
Don't let it go
You couldn't let go anyway
She knew you too well
And had already tied the ribbon around your wristInstead of a heavy, lidded Lego box
You lift your heavy-lidded eyes
To meet their distorted reflection
You realize both of you stand alone
With empty hands
Ribbons tied around your wrists
And nobody to remind you
Of what you shouldn't let go
You get the feeling
She wasn't talking about the balloon
