A woman waiting in a lobby,
Sees a simple man
Carving many mini-
circles on the floor.
Seeing something special
She asks him what is wrong
And a simple man shows her
What a gentle man is like.
He relates to her:
Does his wife really need this?
She looked fine for all these year.
But the voice of insecurity
Has caused this surgery.
Because it burrowed into her heart,
Holding her heart in desolation
Having all the heft of an ancient anchor
Securing a ship in a shallow harbor
And she has a realization
For this man’s pain shows her
And her soul writhes within her
As she realizes what she’s done
She’s betrayed herself.
She’s betrayed her husband.
And is forced to walk out of the office,
So she won’t betray God.
For she sees that he has spoken
She has heard what he has spoken;
That to change his work is blasphemy,
And betrayal to anyone whose love is true.
