A Fortress

I do not wish to be weak
   I want to be resilient,
    impenetrable,
            like a fortress.

A fortress does not bow
   nor does it surrender;
once finished, only time can touch it.

I want to be a fortress,
    more resilient with the years,
    more settled,
    more determined,
with walls they'll never bring down.

Though I've been a fortress,
I desire to let you in.
I wish, for you, that my walls
    are surmountable.
  That my defenses lay down
    and my guards stand aside.
After all, I've a suspicion
  I'm stronger with you.
