on the day the millennials cried

On that day, the better part of a nation sank to it's knees

and cried out;

"what have we done?"

&

"what about the children?"

And they fell to the pavement with "i'm sorry" still written on their lips.

And the children watched, stunned, as a monster,

not monster won the hearts of millions with nothing but dollar signs

and mind games.

And suddenly the greatest nation in the world became a nation who banked on the

reverse of progress. And even i cried, because i never wanted it to come to this;

and our new powers don't inspire hope, but fear.

I cannot rejoice when my friends cannot leave their homes,

and "locker room talk" is a new given.

And i do not know how i am supposed to love a country where one step forward

is now two steps back, and where your family hails from gives people the right to shout

"terrorist"

&

"go back to where you came from."

And i will not stand idle and watch our right to love to be taken away,

not when we have fought so damn hard for it to be ours.

Its not fair that we cannot walk the streets without the fear of being grabbed

lurking on every corner,

and have the country say nothing but

"boys will be boys."

November 8th will be renamed

The Day a Monster, Not Monster Ruled the World

- and the day the millennials cried.

United i will not stand until my aunt can dry her tears

and until my friends can leave their homes

and until it can be accepted that you cannot shock the gay out of me.

I will not raise up from my knees and recite the pledge

and believe it until i can have faith in the words coming out of my mouth again.
