"Friendship is also about liking a person for their failings, their weakness. It's also about mutual help, not about exploitation."

THE decision of separating themselves from French court had caused the fruition of mutual understanding between Madeleine and Tobias. Though not all at once, the minor improvements swirled every so often like butterflies around the newlyweds. Even more surprising, the changes had taken place during the grand total of nearly two weeks.

Talking grew easier; even with some lighthearted laughs in between.

Escaping the constant reminders of their tragic wedding ceremony was a necessity neither of them realized they needed. It was only until they found themselves around a new and friendlier setting that tensions began to dissipate. After all, instead of it being a journey for any ordinary couple who wanted to strengthen their marriage, Madeleine and Tobias were significantly behind in that regard. Casual outings and conversations took place solely for the purpose of attempting to know more about the stranger they vowed to be committed to till death. It didn't feel like marriage throughout those days, however. It was more like getting to know an acquaintance they'd never met.

"I'm not sure this is a good idea," Madeleine warned humorously, staring down at the intimidating blade within her grasp. Her expression showed the undertone of humor in her voice through a quizzical look as the upturn of her lips grew more prominent.

"Oh, sure it is." Tobias dismissed as he bent down, grabbing a large twig that had been luckily laying just shy of a stagnant body of water. He raised his brows suggestively when the slender tree branch was noticeably perfect for a duel. Granted, it was one of those moments when he thought quite highly of himself for being so resourceful. "My father spent every waking moment emphasizing the importance of keen swordsmanship when I was a child."

He nodded towards Madeleine; a clear beckon for her to raise the weapon she held.

"And am I so painfully mundane that it's caused you to teach me in the middle of these fields of Paris?" Madeleine retaliated appallingly. In truth, she could easily see the probability of Tobias learning skillful swordsmanship from an early age. After all, his own lineage ultimately positioned members of his family in direct loyalty to the King of France. It was an impressive fact; bringing forth outstanding honor to all under the family name.
