I watch silently as Dominic storms off. Now that he’s mentioned it, he looks similar to how Leon did. You wouldn’t ever be able to tell though, seeing as Dominic has the nastiest expression on his face all the time.

Though – to be fair – he just found his brother’s dead body. Everyone would take that badly.

Cain walks up to my side, fixing a small, sad smile on his face.

            “Don’t mind Dom,” he says.

I shake my head. “I think he has every right to behave the way he is. If it wasn’t for me, his brother wouldn’t be dead.”

Cain rested a hand on my shoulder.

“Don’t think like that,” he says. “It doesn’t bring Leon back, and it’ll only make you feel bad.”

I nod.

He’s right of course.

Just then, Pierre walks towards us. “We should be going, before the Wraiths find out they’re on a wild goose chase.”

            “Yeah, you’re right,” I whisper.

I follow Cain and Pierre through the clearing, until we get back to the horses.

The guys all climb onto their horses and I’m about to climb up onto Cain’s horse when Dominic’s sharp voice stops me.

            “Clarissa! You’re riding with me.”

What?

Why?

Almost as if he could read my mind, he calls over to me. “You were my brother’s headache. It makes sense that you’re mine now.”

Great! He knows exactly how to make a girl feel good, doesn’t he?

I look up at him, unsure what to do. I don’t know how to climb onto a horse.

“It’s fine, Dom, she can ride with me,” Cain volunteers, hoping off his horse.

“I’m getting Leon’s job done,” Dominic practically growls.

Cain nods his head tightly. With that, he helps lift me up and set me behind Dominic on the horse.

Do I grab onto him?

Well, he already hates me, nothing I can do at this point could possibly increase that hate.

So, with nothing to lose, I gingerly grab his sides lightly.
