there was a day when
you had left me at home.
i had wandered outside
and into a strangers backyard.
a woman came out
with a smile
and asked me where my mother was.
i told her
that i hadn't seen you
in days.
and with a frown she asked me
if you loved me
and i whispered,
"i don't know."
