Beep beep beep

She lay in the bed, the gown chafing her already sensitive skin. The thin blanket did almost nothing to protect her from the cold and she shivered. A faint beeping filled the room, disturbing the peace. Reaching over she pushed a button but the beeping continued.

“Yes dear, what is it?” The nurse inquired.

“The beeping…” She trailed off.

“Yes? What of it?”

“It’s bothering me, make it stop.”

“I’m afraid not. Anything else?”

She didn’t reply, merely lay her arm across her own face. The nurse soon left.

“Ah!” She gasped, pain radiating through her body. Waves of it raced through her as the beeps sped up Her back arched, her muscles locked, and her heart raced. The nurse rushed back, just in time for the scream that passed the girl’s lips. She crashed back upon the bed, and the I.V. fell out of her arm. She gasped, then her breathing faltered before coming to a stop. The beeping crescendoed and slowed to a halt.

“Well at least the beeping stopped…”
