The Man of Darkness

i go by many names

most common

is the man of darkness

i have eaten the holy flowers

left by the ancient one

and i know the secrets of the universe

i have seen

all that can be seen

and i know all things

i have walked along dark railroad tracks

waiting for a train

hoping for death

but death will never come

for such a dark man

i have eaten the sourness

the bitter rinds

of the grapes of wrath

and i have tasted

sweet berries

from freshly-rolled cigars

i have seen the world for ten generations

and they were all wrong

i am a man that breathes darkness

i have not felt fear

yet i have seen wolves as they circled me

growling

baring their teeth

so sharp in their mouths

but this has never caused me fear

i have torn out the throats of wolves

and they tasted sour

like a piece of rotten

candy

i took the innocence

of a white virgin

on a pile of straw in an old barn

she did not scream

she only begged silently for mercy

i did not hear her pleas

for i did not care

i am a man made of darkness
