‘We hide amongst the shadows. Watching. Waiting. That is all we do… Until the time is right.’
The mysterious journal only spoke of so much. No information on the cover or on any of the pages, just the simple line of words at the top of the first page. With the handwriting scrawled almost in a state of panic, it seemed questionable. And the strange red stain on the back cover seemed to emanate its own presence into the room.
But Maria didn’t know any better. She was only eleven, after all. For all she knew, the journal was a hidden treasure – her own little secret – she had found.
Deep in her heart, she fsaw the journal as mysterious and intriguing, so kept it in a shoebox underneath her bed. She wanted the journal to be kept a secret from everybody… Everybody except her dog, Lucifer, whom she shared the secret with.
